Instead of Counting Sheep…

It’s 2:30 AM and I am sitting up in the dark wondering why I can’t get to sleep. Although, I probably shouldn’t wonder as I’ve been laying in bed thinking about all the responsibilities I have and the never ending list in my planner that just keeps getting longer, no matter how many items I’ve crossed off. There’s so much to do and so many people expecting so much from me. I would love to just pack up my bags and run. Run to some place where there is nothing to do but relax and play and sleep.

Unfortunately, that’s not always possible… Physically that is.  However, I have actually discovered that I can get away from all of this responsibility and relax and quiet my mind and find restful sleep.  Sound too good to be true?  Let me share my experience with you by taking you on an imaginary cruise:

First of all, do not attempt this while driving!  🙂  Do, however, take your time with your imagery and savor each and every suggestion and description given to the fullest extent possible.  You want to make it feel as real as possible.

So, if you’re ready to start, find a comfortable place to lie down and try to empty your mind of everything but the anticipation of going on a dream cruise to anywhere you want to go.  The sky is the limit and money is no object, so you can spend as much as you want. Time is no object, so you can be gone as long as you want.

Now imagine you’re walking up the plank pulling brand new luggage behind you… think of the color and design you pick out just for this cruise and then imagine a whole new wardrobe packed inside… Imagine how excited you feel with the anticipation of wearing every outfit.  Picture how beautiful or handsome you will look in them and how confident they make you feel.  Imagine participating and enjoying various activities, such as plays, ping pong and swimming.  Feel the warmth of the sunshine on your head and shoulders as you walk around the deck and look out across the vast ocean into the horizon.  Close your eyes and take a deep breath, breathing in the crisp clean air, letting go all the tension that is built up in your muscles…  Picture stress, anxiety and expectations being sucked out from every cell of your body and being carried away with the tide into depths unknown.  Experience the feeling of how light your body feels now.  The sheer weightlessness of your shoulders and limbs and the clearness of your mind.  Feel how rejuvenated you have become.  Imagine now that you feel so good you want to get dressed up in your best formal wear for the evening and go to dinner.  Picture all the foods. Every food you can imagine is right in front of you at your fingertips.  Choose whatever you desire.  There is so much food… See it, smell it, taste it.  (Forget dieting! This is a vacation, so eat and enjoy!)   Now that your stomach is full, you walk out for an evening stroll… Imagine how beautiful the ocean looks now in the evening moonlight and how completely relaxed you are from spending the whole day doing exactly what YOU wanted to do… And imagine how wonderfully tired you are as you go to your room, change and fall into a cozy, warm bed with soft satin sheets. Finally, imagine how peaceful and calm it feels to lay there with no responsibilities, no homework, no school, no chores, no planner, no schedule and no alarm clock to wake up to… It’s Just you, drifting on an endless body of water that will take you to the ends of the earth and nothing else matters but that moment… peaceful… relaxing… endless…

Shhhhh…..Bon Voyage…
